The Israel Tennis Center celebrated the opening of the ITC-Akko on Sunday (June 6, 2010) in a festive ceremony with the participation of all partners to the visionary endeavor, including the Mayor of Akko, Shimon Lankri, Nochi Dankner, Chairman of IDB Group and Alan Hoffmann, Director General of the Jewish Agency.
History
The seeds of the vision for a center which will serve the children of Akko and the surrounding area were sown immediately after the Second Lebanon War during which tens of thousands of residents in northern Israel, including Akko, found themselves under daily rocket fire. Serving 20,000 children and youngsters weekly in centers spread throughout Israel from Kiryat Shmona in the North to Beer Sheba in the south, the ITC's 14th and newest center was built at an investment of USD 18 Million and includes 13 tennis courts, a 500-seat mini stadium on the main court as well a lecture hall, a fitness facility and a computer room. More than 1,000 enthusiastic spectators, including mayors, leading business people, local dignitaries and Akko residents celebrated the event which showcased the building of the center from its inception, through the laying of the cornerstone up to the festive opening celebration.Contact Information
