Lera Patiuk attends a training camp in Spain with top 60 players

At the beginning of December, Lera Patiuk, the 15 year old tennis player from the ITC – Ramat Hasharon, along with her coach Asaf Yamin, travelled to Spain for a weeklong training camp at the Elitea Academy in Barcelona. The Academy has 15 hard courts and eight clay courts. The group who trained with Lera included 12 girls from the WTA Top 200 and two of them are ranked in the top 60 – Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez (35th in the world) and Carla Suarez Navarro (56th). Flavia Penneta (20th) and Anastasia Pavluychenkova (16th) also practiced in the Academy at the same time.

The players were preparing for the 2012 season together and Lera, who played a couple of professional tournaments in Spain, received a personal invitation from the team’s manager to join in their training camp.

Lera Patiuk: “It was a week which gave me a lot of self-confidence. At the start I was really nervous because I would be playing with top 60 players, but then I had a chat with Carla Suarez Navarro and she helped me relax. In the end we had a great practice. I felt really great, I saw that I can keep up with these girls and I returned to Israel really happy and satisfied with myself”.

Asaf Yamin:”Lera had a great week, she showed great maturity and attitude, she faced players of a much higher level but she did it exceptionally well. I am sure that this week helped Lera a lot, especially to gain self-confidence and the belief that she can play at that level. She has a long road ahead of her and this was another stop on the journey”.
